Jessica and Noah recently invited me to capture an engagement session at El Matador Beach, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. What made this occasion extra special was the use of both a medium-format film camera and a medium-format digital camera.
Shooting with film imbued the photos with a timeless and elegant quality that digital images often lack. It felt like stepping back in time, capturing moments in a classic and nostalgic way.
On the other hand, employing a medium-format digital camera provided the convenience of immediate feedback and digital editing. This blend of old-school and modern techniques showcased the versatility of contemporary photography.
We decided on a sunset session to bask in the beautiful golden light. The warm hues of the setting sun created a serene and tranquil atmosphere, enhancing the beauty of Jessica and Noah.
To infuse a playful element, we encouraged Jessica and Noah to go barefoot and enjoy the ocean waves. This added a sense of fun and captured the carefree spirit of the moment. The combination of the beach, the sunset, and their bare feet gave the images a youthful and vibrant feel.
El Matador Beach, with its rugged cliffs and rocky shoreline, served as a stunning backdrop for these portraits. It provided a beautiful contrast to the softness of Jessica and Noah, showcasing both the beauty of nature and the individuals in the photos.
This engagement session was a delightful fusion of timeless elegance, peaceful moments, and joyful experiences for Jessica and Noah. By using both the magic of film and the quick spontaneity of a digital camera, we were able to capture a wide range of emotions and create breathtaking photographs that will be treasured for years to come.
